*Salam everyone,
Laila here and I’m starting my blog with a review post about another blog (so original!!), but we have to start somewhere right ?, anyways enjoy reading this😁.
*(Salam = peace in Arabic, used for greeting).
Blog reviewed: FreeTech4learners.com
(1) Organization and layout:
when I first looked at the blog, the first word that came up to my mind was “jammed”. I couldn’t understand the layout until I read the information slowly. Honestly, this would have been the time where I would left the blog because it was overwhelming. Things like the title, archive, and even dates were not clear and too small, which made it difficult to find them.
(2) Content and features:
2.1 The content is mostly educational, ranging from tools to tips that can help teachers or learners. I also found that there is a lot of self-promotion content about the blogger himself in different parts of the blog. For example, in the first page you would see his book, then when navigating you can also find contact information, or ways to invite him. In general, finding the educational content was difficult compared to information about him.
Self-promotion content:
2.2 For features, he provides many links to different sources he mentions in a blog like YouTube, or articles, and they would take me immediately to the original source which is a bonus. He also has different links to his socials, and buttons to help share his content on different social platforms. An important thing he has is an archives button and tags which helps you find different topics he wrote about.
Archive section:
(3) Ease of use and navigation:
3.1 Although the information was jammed in one spot, navigating through them was somehow easy. It was also easy to click on links he mentions, as they were there and I didn’t have to go through different links to reach them. He also had the links in blue which made it easy for the eye to spot.
Links in blue:
3.2 One drawback on this part is that a lot of information was hidden, for example, the titles of the topic in the archive. This means that instead of having variety of information presented In front of you, you would have to guess the topics he wrote about, then look for them.
(4) Target audience:
From the content I can see that the target audience is teachers or people interested in educational tools however there are some points to make. I didn’t find any comment section where people can engage with the writer’s content, so his messages only goes in one way. Also, since he has lots of self-promotions materials I can also guess that his target audience can be people who will pay him for his services like his book or his talks.
Summary:
All in all, the blog is not something I would advise a new reader to read for the first time as they can get overwhelmed with the load of information placed in one place. I would however advise to give it a try and you’ll definitely find something useful, it is just that it might take more time.

So, how did I do in my first blog ? let me know in the comments :)
Hello Laila - to answer your question - you did great!! I love your colour choices for background and subtitles - nicely matching and tidy looking. I also like the way you start with a question and end with one too - you are really concentrating on engaging your readers which is exactly the right approach. You have a very honest style giving your balanced opinion of the blogger you are reviewing, so that will make your reader more likely to believe what you say. It is also a warning to new bloggers - don't make your blog too 'busy' or 'jammed' as you put it. The link to the advice YouTube is great - perhaps next time see if you can embed a YouTube video directly in your post. This is a really good start - keep up the good work! I look forward to reading more in your blog.
ReplyDeleteHello Tilly, thank you for the great and detailed feedback I really appreciate it. for embedding the link, I thought this is how it's done, I use used the "link" button, but I'll see how I can improve it. Also, thank you for noticing how I'm trying to engage my reader, I tend to feel like i'm doing it wrong.
DeleteHi Laila, this is a great blog post for me! It is really clear. I mean after reading this blog, I will have a very clear idea to choose whether to read the reviewed blog or not. Your post totally match the purpuse of telling readers if that blog is worth reading! I love the way you use pictures or screenshot. It is a nice way to guide your readers and attract them to follow your logic. Also, you use "salam" at the beginning of your bolg. I like it. This is a new word for me and I think it gives your blog a more interesting and personal touch (at least for me I feel interesting haha). Ahh, a tiny suggestion, maybe it will be better if we can make the pictures a little bigger to balance the whole page, and it may also help readers to look through them more clearly. I think you did a reallly good job, I can find all the elements I expect on your page.
ReplyDeleteHello Fay, I appreciate your comment about "salam", you got why I put it, I'm making it my own thing hahaha :). also, thank you for the feedback I'm trying to balance the size of my pictures to make them look better. Next time, I'll change the sizing. Thank you.
DeleteHi, Laila! I like how you are describing the blog very detail. It gives me the general view from the positive and negative side especially for the teachers who are looking for something like this topic. I like how you put the pictures so reader will understand what you mean. Great 👍
ReplyDeleteHello myonewonly, (I want to know your name, it helps), Thank you for your feedback, I feel like it's easier to divide things for the reader, it make information much easier to digest. I'll put better paragraphs next time and pictures, do check it out if you can and let me know :) thanks again.
DeleteWow. So lucky to see your blog, It provides me so many new ideas. What you have done is pretty good. As for the pictute, several of them are not clear enough to see the content. Maybe you can make the picture bigger.
ReplyDeletehahahahah omg Chen, you made me laugh. Thank you for such a compliment. I agree, the pictures are a bit small, but I didn't want them to fill my blog that's why.
